| Date Issued | 13 June 2025 |
| Abstract | Breast size plays a significant role in how women perceive their bodies, with many, including flat-chested women in the Philippines, preferring larger or uplifted breasts. This study analyzed how selected flat-chested Filipino women express and experience their femininity through clothing. It aimed to define their concept of femininity, describe their clothing selection in terms of function, material, and aesthetics, and explore their social experiences related to expressing femininity. Data were collected from twelve (12) purposively selected participants through interviews and photo documentation, and analyzed using thematic and descriptive visual analysis. The findings reveal that femininity, for these women, is not a fixed concept but is shaped by personal experiences and social expectations. Participants used clothing to manage their comfort, confidence, and appearance, often responding to their environment or mood. Comfort and ease of movement were prioritized in choosing materials, while aesthetic preferences such as color, silhouette, and styling reflected a combination of personal taste and social influence. Clothing also served as a way to explore and redefine femininity over time, shaped by relationships with family and friends, as well as institutions like school, religion, and media. This study highlights the experiences of flat-chested Filipino women and offers insights for more inclusive and thoughtful clothing design. Future research may further explore how being flat-chested intersects with other identity markers and demographic factors to better understand femininity and self-expression. |
