Date Issued June 2024
Abstract Beauty pageants are not only a form of entertainment but also a vehicle for gender ideologies and practices. They are cultural performances where individuals perform and learn to perform different aspects of gender. This indicated a weak resistance to pageant ideals. Despite this, they actively negotiate and attempt to redefine the masculine structure—adopting a hybrid form of masculinity. There is a tension within their masculine performance that blends traditional and hegemonic with progressive, inclusive, and diverse masculinity. This foregrounds that pageantry is not merely a pop culture phenomenon but an importa
