Resource Title Conflict resolution strategies in Queer millennial and Gen Z Filipino Long-Distance Relationships
Date Issued 25 June 2024
Abstract This study examines conflict resolution in monogamous long-distance relationships among Filipino LGBTQ+ Millennials and Generation Z. It aims to understand how these couples handle disagreements and the specific challenges they face in the Philippines. Using a qualitative methodology with volunteer participants, the study seeks to contribute to the fields of communication and relationship psychology within the Filipino context, thereby providing a framework for future research. In addition to academic insights, this study aims to increase societal acceptance, inclusion, and awareness of queer relationships in the Philippines.
The research found that despite facing challenges like conflicting schedules, interpretational discrepancies (due to text-based communication), and socio-cultural differences, participants generally employed collaborative communication for conflict resolution. However, an overreliance on avoidance strategies could hinder addressing underlying issues and maintain harmony. These findings highlight the need for further research on culturally sensitive communication tactics, developing emotional intelligence in LDRs, and creating individualized support interventions to promote healthier relationships within this population.
