| Abstract | Coaching philosophy can greatly impact athletic experience. Consequently, these experiences can influence athletic outcomes, such as athlete development and competence. Hence, the purpose of this study is to explore the coaching philosophy in training of a men’s UAAP lawn tennis coach through coach and athlete interviews, and determine the congruence between their responses. The participants were selected through convenience sampling, with quota sampling applied among the members of the team. The data was analyzed through the objectives of the study and the following subheadings: coaching philosophy, decision making, communication style and development, success, motivation, and training structure. The findings of the study demonstrated a mostly congruent perspective between the stated methods of the coach and the identified coaching styles by the athletes, implying a democratic coaching philosophy that emphasizes coach-athlete dynamics, communication, and an individualized approach. |
