Resource Title Predictors in coaching behavior and athlete satisfaction in collegiate women's football
Date Issued 14 June 2024
Abstract This study seeks to determine which scale of coaching behaviours substantially impacts athlete satisfaction in terms of individual performance and training and instruction respectively. The respondents of this research involved members of a collegiate football female team consisting of 25 active female athletes. The study used a quantitative method and employed linear regression to determine the influence of coaching behaviours to athlete satisfaction. The questionnaires used in this research are the Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Coaching Behaviour Assessment System-Perceived Behaviour Scale (CBAS-PB). Only Ignoring Mistakes (IM) reached the level of significance using linear regression. The rest of the coaching behaviors had no significant difference but possessed positive and negative directions. The common coaching behaviors that had a positive influence on athlete satisfaction (both in individual performance, and training and instruction) were (R) Positive Reinforcement, (NR) Non-reinforcement, (PTIM) Punitive Technical Instruction, and (KC) Keeping Control. The common coaching behaviors that had a negative influence on athlete satisfaction were (IM) Ignoring Mistakes, (P) Punishment, (TIM) Mistake-contingent Technical Instruction, (TIG) General Technical Instruction, (O) Organization, (GC) General Communication.
