Abstract Qigong is one of the few martial arts and holistic movement practices that have been practiced around the world for thousands of years in the pursuit of health and wellness. Tracing back to its roots in Ancient China, qigong has long been thought to promote internal balance within the body as self-regulation; in training the mind and body through controlled breathing and patterns of bodily movement. This qualitative study aims to discover commonly perceived benefits of qigong practice and identify usual responses to stress in five (5) qigong instructors who have been practicing qigong for at least two (2) consecutive years. In-depth semi-structured interviews containing predetermined open questions from the study of Posadzki (2010) will be used as the main method for data collection, and inductive thematic analysis in identifying themes which may reflect the experiences and perceptions of qigong instructors as practitioners. The findings revealed that the qigong instructors experienced perceived mental health and well-being benefits. Furthermore, this study presented qigong, an all-encompassing activity, as a helpful tool for reducing stress and as a physical activity with stress-reduction components.
