Date Issued June 2024
Abstract The study of this research aims to tackle how Filipino women are represented in teleserye,
starting with the history of teleserye in order to know when these representations started in the
Philippines. It will then explore teleserye to know how Filipino women are represented in this
platform while also identifying the underrated features of Filipino women, specifically Filipino
women heroes, working Filipino women, and Filipino women in households. It will also include
studies on what was the source of society in implementing these expectations to Filipino women,
and how did Filipino adapted these certain behaviors and values that they have implemented
within the society. The researcher will also identify which age groups use more of certain
platforms to know how frequent they consume these and the effects of their consumption. Based
on the data that the researcher has gathered, Filipino women are inaccurately represented.
Filipino women have been represented with oppression, gullibility, and bravery. They are also
not represented as intelligent, and the respondents also agree that there are gender norms and
stereotypes in teleserye. The perspectives of the respondents are also very often influenced by
the representations shown in the teleserye. The findings from the interviews that the researcher
has conducted shows that the representation of Filipino Women in Filipino-produced teleserye
was having traits of not being able to fight back, and women empowerment. Thus, the researcher
created a design solution using moving images, particularly animation. It is a 30-second short
animation film intended for commercial series. The short film will provide accurate
representations of Filipino Women in order to empower and inspire Filipino people.
