Abstract | The film narrates the life and experiences of a third-culture kid in a personal lens as he shares the tale of his father and how he dealt with the death of his grandmother. As the tale unfolds, he realizes he must hide his lola’s condition to spare guilt from his relatives and family abroad. The film utilizes the Dependency theory while also emphasizing the resistance due to close-family ties in Asian Collectivist cultures based on the story. This is further shown in the film as secrets are kept to preserve the harmony and relationships within the family especially while away from each other. It mentions the special qualities Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) encompasses and how they are expected to endure despite personal struggles such as being away from their loved ones. The work connects photographs, recorded anecdotes, and mixed media videos in an attempt to rekindle a reunion scenario within the family. |
