Abstract This thesis explores the psychological weight of disordered eating by translating internal compulsions into tangible, spatial experiences. Using the structure of installation and the material language of ceramics, the work simulates restrictive eating behaviors such as ARFID, OCD, anorexia, and bulimia. Through symbolic ceramic forms representing food and altered dining arrangements, the thesis examines how personal struggles with control, shame, and discipline are shaped by broader societal pressures and cultural ideals of beauty.
The resulting creative works of this thesis examine the ways that spatial design and symbolic food objects can externalize private struggles, shifting them from invisible compulsions to shared encounters. Using a playful, candy-colored visual language, the work draws viewers in, only to reveal the discomfort beneath the surface. By engaging physically and emotionally with the installation, audiences are invited to reflect on the complex relationships between appetite, appearance, and control.
