| Abstract | Disparities in the authority of medical staff and head coaches become a challenge to proper communication, decision-making, support of the needs of the athletes, and delivering accurate information on injury prevention. This study aims to explore medical staff and head coaches’ perspectives on the communication and collaboration process in injury prevention and management. The researcher used an exploratory-descriptive qualitative research design and semi-structured individual interviews to collect and gather data. The participants of the study were composed of eight participants, consisting of one head coach and two medical staff of collegiate football teams, respectively. Braun & Clarke (2016) Thematic analysis is used to generate patterns and themes. Results revealed seven major themes: (1)Communication Methods Between Head Coach and Medical Staff, (2) Role Specifics, (3) Evaluation of Injury Prevention and Management Strategies, (4) Barriers and Challenges to Communication and Collaboration, (5) Decision-making in Injury Management and Prevention, (6) Autonomy and Authority Dynamics in Decision-Making, and (7) Additional Recommendations in Improving Communication and Collaboration in Injury Prevention and Management. The results revealed that effective communication and collaborative strategies that promote athlete-centered care are essential for injury prevention and management protocols. The study underscores the importance of proactive and collaborative systems supported by shared goals and continuous communication among stakeholders to improve injury prevention and management strategies to optimize athletes’ well-being and performance. |
