| Resource Title | In a world of a million side quests: a self-reflexive study navigating aspiration in the Philippine Esports broadcasting scene |
| Date Issued | 9 June 2026 |
| Abstract | This self-reflexive study explores how a middle-class Filipina college student navigates her aspiration to work in the Philippine esports broadcasting scene within contemporary media environments. Drawing from personal experience through the lens of Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectionality (1991), it examines how adopting this aspiration is shaped not only by individual ambition but also by an individual’s intersecting identities and media environments encountered along the way. By mapping out these shifts in aspiration through the Media Career Aspiration-Decision Process lifted from the five stages of adoption in Everett Rogers’ Innovation-Decision Process (2003), the study portrays aspiration as a dynamic, interactive process— one that evolves through exposure, experimentation, and introspection that is later adopted by an individual through decision-making. In this sense, pursuing a career in Philippine esports broadcasting is like playing a game: each decision, challenge, and new experience functions as a quest, contributing to leveling up both skills and professional identity. |
