Resource Title An urban mall park : a convergence between outdoor and indoor leisure and recreation through indoor landscape design in the Filipino mall
Date Issued March 2012
Abstract Urban areas in the Philippines are slowly but surely replacing out all of the public parks and green areas. They are being replaced by more what people favor more, malls. The city dwellers favor malls over the public parks because of the comfortable environment, safety and security, as well as the many activities that can be done within the malls.
The mushrooming of malls in all urban areas is a very grave threat to the environment as well as the health of the people that is why there is a need to provide green spaces within the urban areas without sacrificing the continuous commercial developments.
The urban mall park caters to the needs of the users and the environment because creates a convergence between outdoor and indoor recreation in terms of a landscape architectural design solution. Moreover, it provides a mall park design that will help alleviate and improve the way of life of mallers when inside that mall. Improving the way of life of mallers implies the enhancing of the malling experience, indoor pollution mitigation, provisions for seating areas, well-designed walking corridor, and providing amenities the users need.
In the long run, the urban mall park will be the catalyst in the revival of the outdoor parks through integrating the essence of those parks into the design and into the landscape.
