| Date Issued | March 2013 |
| Abstract | The Philippines is an archipelago of natural resources; Along with the richness of nature is the richness of Philippine culture. These two resour-ces are often linked together by folklore, the oral traditions passed from generation to generation by our ancestors. Protected areas are the finest examples of natural and cultural heritage and are important for the survival of key species. Mt. Arayat is a Philippine protected area displaying the dichotomy of natural biodiversity and cultural roots. Aside from being a home to vast range of flora and fauna, it is also the abode of the Kapampangan Sun god Aring Sinukuan (some contend it’s a diwata named Mariang Sinukuan, the sister of Mariang Makiling), with folk stories to boot from local people and trekkers alike. |
