Abstract Waterways are the prized hallmark of a community with their green corridors that offer a refreshing respite for anyone, lifeblood of the society, and also a valuable resource to a city. They remove water pollutants and improve water quality, provide flood control and storm water drainage are vital to wildlife habitat, and create neighborhood beauty and improved quality of life. It is then very important to retain or regain the natural charms of these water bodies. Looking into a calm body of water, we often see our reflection staring back at us. In the urban environment, however, we have developed the land around the water so much that it is virtually impossible to do so. As we distance ourselves from the water, we lose our ability to see ourselves reflected in the natural world, and, in so doing, run the rusk of forgetting our connection to it altogether. Water bodies are much more than natural mirrors, of course as an element of the public realm, they are places of recreation and social interaction that can make a city, a town a beautiful and welcoming place for both its inhabitants and visitors... This paper aims to identify existing problems and conditions of the waterways in Hagonoy, Bulacan. Many of the problems with the waterways date back to early settlers, who viewed the waterways as convenient conveyor belts for refuse and this attitude led to the location of outhouses along the creeks, and later, to septic systems and sewer lines. These are some of the reasons that caused obstruction of the natural flow of water, in turn will cause flood that brings epidemic, the result, being an environmental disaster. Others may be attributed to the fact that some waterways have been narrowed down due to building constructions purposes. This study investigates the potential for reclaiming the natural course of Hagonoy River and its tributaries, along with its restoration, revitalization and preservation and its potential for future developments.
