Date Issued | May 2015 |
Abstract | There have been numerous studies relating video games to education and learning. In countries like the United States of America, libraries have started including video games in their collection. This study aimed to introduce the concept of a videogame collection in a Philippine library to support the field of game design and development by determining the feasibility of developing a videogame collection in the CIIT library through three aspects: market, technical and financial and using a SWOT analysis. The respondents of the study were game design and development students and staff of CIIT. Descriptive research method was used for the study. A pre-study was conducted prior to the actual feasibility study. Surveys and interviews, as well as an ocular inspection, were conducted to gather the pertinent data. The market and financial aspects showed promising results. It was revealed that the students and staff welcomed the concept of including a videogame collection in the library. It was reasoned that the study was financially feasible. Other possible sources of funding were also mentioned. Results of the technical aspect showed that CIIT was lacking in terms of the library space and staff. Physical requirements and staff qualifications for the proposal were also listed. |
