Abstract This study aimed to find out the awareness of college students of Arellano University, Far Eastern University and University of the East on the concept of plagiarism and proper citation with the use of a survey questionnaire. The researcher developed a scoring device that was used to interpret the gathered responses from the respondents.

The respondents of the study were 1st year to 3rd year students who were taking or have taken English 2 or Comm 2 during the time when the study was conducted. Respondents were selected systematically to evenly distribute the survey questionnaires. The respondents answered true or false for the first part of the questionnaires that measured their familiarity on the concept of plagiarism. The second part of the questionnaire was a multiple-choice type of exam given to the respondents to test their awareness on the proper usage of citation styles.

The finding of the study revealed that the respondents from these three universities were either moderately or fully aware on the concept of plagiarism and proper citation. Most of the students answered that they learned these concepts from their professor and with the help of the Internet. The response of the students also showed that they use proper citation in their theses. Lastly, most of the respondents were aware on the policies of their respect university against the act of plagiarism.
