| Abstract | The study sought to understand the dynamics of the fire station, and how firefighters work inside. With the growing need for firefighters in the Philippines, and the further recruitment of the Bureau of Fire Protection, fire stations are facing impending problems with their spaces. The study centers on the profile and nature of the firefighters, and the organizational culture assimilated through the relationships inside the station. This study used a multi-method approach in its data gathering: (1) Photo documentation; (2) Observation; (3) Interview; and (4) Frequency tallies. The study utilized purposively sampling method. The researcher selected (3) fire stations in one city, in order to focus on one geographical area. The following design criteria for the stations were used: (1) registration and accreditation by the Bureau of Fire Protection; (2) located in Taguig City; (3) have at least (20) personnel. The study was conducted for (10) weeks, from February 2016 to March 2016. Specific areas in the station and their necessary qualities regarding the profession; the factor of fast response and its inclination in the design of the station; and the division between professional and casual atmospheres of specific rooms are the main subjects reflecting the efficiency of the fire station. Organizational culture, specific areas in the stations, functions of the station, and stress management were brought about in the data gathering. This study aimed to create awareness in the environment of institutional design challenges of the fire station, and recommended standards In space planning and adjacency of the structure reflected in the proximity matrix and block diagram. |
