Resource Title A systems analysis and design of an augmented reality mobile application system for the UP College of Law Library
Date Issued 30 June 2021
Abstract A library-based Augmented Reality mobile application system was designed in order to propose a solution to the problems encountered by the UP College of Law Library regarding its services. An extensive literature review regarding Augmented Reality in libraries resulted in the realization that there were very few studies regarding the topic in the context of libraries in the Philippines. The system was based on other Augmented Reality library systems previously designed by other libraries. The waterfall model was the software model used because of its extensive documentation and linear progression. Two representatives were interviewed: one from the staff and one from the student body. Both representatives were interviewed regarding three topics: their library experiences, familiarity with Augmented Reality, and using Augmented Reality as a library tool. It was found that while both are currently satisfied with their library experiences, they are open to the idea of using Augmented Reality in the library. The system focuses on improving certain library tasks such as book retrieval and book searching, providing new library services such as book analytics and brief book description, and making library orientations more interactive. Book covers were used as markers for the books, and a unique marker was designed for each section of the library. An already developed open-source mobile application was used as the basis for the prototype. The finalized system was not implemented at the UP College of Law Library due to constraints.
