Abstract | Adopting a business space into one’s homes requires careful planning as its interior space management can have adverse effects to the lifestyles of the families who own them. This study focused on these home-based businesses, particularly, home-based carinderias and examined how integrating a business space into a domestic space can affect the lifestyles of the Filipino families in terms of their privacy, productivity and safety. Purposive sampling was used to determine the samples for the study. The samples were comprised of three (3) home-based carinderias and two (2) household members for each home-based carinderia which were chosen based on criteria. The carinderias must be integrated in a home, should have been operating for 6 months and above and should have an estimated floor area of 10 sqm to 40 sqm. Meanwhile, the respondent household members have to be members of the household who owns the home-based carinderia wherein one from each household has to be the head of the family or the owner of the home-based carinderia and the other one should be involved in the operations of the home-based carinderia. These samples underwent various instrumentations under the Descriptive Study research design wherein quantitative methods of baseline information and survey questionnaires were first utilized and qualitative methods of ocular observation, photo documentation and in-depth interviews were used to validate the data gathered. The findings of the study were presented in tables, charts and graphs abiding by an outline grounded from the objectives of the study. The data gathering was completed within 2-3 weeks’ time wherein 3 days in total were allotted for each home-based carinderia. In the analysis of data, theories that support the findings were utilized and materials were cross-referenced for justification of these information.
