Date Issued 2008
Abstract Filipinos has a long, rich history of traditional medicine. With recent studies proving their efficacy, today's wellness trends call for a union of Western and traditional methods - integrative medicine.

This design thesis is an answer to this call; a Center for Traditional and Integrative Medicine (CTIM) . Knowing the structure's novel typology, spaces were derived from hilot, a local traditional-modality. Interviews (with Dr. Jaime Galvez-Tan of the UP-PGH's Traditional and Integrative Medicine Clinic) and case studies on existing wellness facilities were also conducted to arrive at the final design program.

To embody a facility of traditional healing, the design concept was developed from the idea of traditional holism: katawan, isip, kaluluwa, puso-kamay at paa. All aspects were addressed, creating a new venue for research, practice and instruction for the urban pinoy. Particular interest was set on the paa (earth-connection), answered through sustainable design are truly "green" building envelope.

In the end, the CTIM is to bee seen as not merely as a curative facility, but as a green, healing icon for the city and temple for future CTIM's in the UP system. It is a testament to a rich facet of culture and the call for progressive medicine.
