Resource Title Ethical clothing consumption practices of selected working millennials who identify as ethical consumers in Metro Manila
Date Issued 11 June 2021
Abstract Evidences from commercial surveys in different countries validate the rise of ethical consumption, but there are still gaps to explore on consumers‟ actions, influences, and motivations for practicing ethical consumption especially as cultural backgrounds and consumer motivations vary around the world. This research aims to contribute to the body of
knowledge on ethical consumption in the Philippines. As it aims to answer the question, “What does it mean to be an ethical consumer in the Philippines?” It seeks to analyze three aspects of the clothing consumer behavior of selected working millennials who identify themselves as ethical consumers, namely: purchase behavior, buying motivations, and postpurchase practices. This research presents a literature study of ethical consumption and how an ethical consumer is defined vis-à-vis the three aforementioned aspects of consumer behavior, characteristics of millennials as consumers and ethical consumers of clothing, criticisms, and other factors that affect ethical consumption in different countries.
This research includes a methodology with instrumentation patterned after Baterbonia‟s 2019 undergraduate thesis on the garment consumption of selected Gen Z college students in relation to fast fashion consumer practices. The methodology is an online survey which aims to gather data to establish a framework on consumer behavior of Filipino
millennial ethical consumer, and a focus group discussion to provide more insights on the topic. Due to limitations in mobility because of COVID-19 restrictions, this study does not include actual data collection and analysis. In lieu of this, the study included recommendations on how to execute the methodology – validating the instrument, conducting the data gathering process, presenting the data, and analyzing the data.
