| Abstract | The Pasig River was once a place where people used to go and see the fascinating scene and striking panorama of the rich historical and cultural aspects of the area. The river was not only known to be a place of transport but a scenic location of relaxation and enjoyment in promoting tourism in the country. At present, the glory days of the river as a tourism attraction are slowly diminishing because of poor management and pollution to the area as well. The thesis - Tabing Ilog: Development of Scenic Landmarks to Promote River Tourism in Pasig River - is a design based project that aims to promote a high quality standard of tourism and development of the Pasig River while furthermore improving the maintenance and rehabilitation of the riverbanks. The author aims to design spaces along the channel of the river to mirror the culture and history of the Pasig River, to further enhance the aesthetic of the area and also create a linkage to the existing spaces and tourist attractions. These designs can be spaces for attraction, recreation and protection of the Pasig River. Careful analysis, key interviews and data gathering were done in the process of the research. Through these findings led to a sustainable design solution using effective landscape principles and visual presentation. The utilization of design strategies and organization of landscape spaces will be beneficial to the research in promoting the Pasig River and once again be an attraction for local users and tourists alike. |
