Abstract | The project begins with showing that the Philippines is an ideal place for the retirement industry because of numerous aspects present in the country. This billion dollar a year industry has the opportunity to become the catalyst for the nation's push in developing or making better its tourism (Ming's World 2002). With this understanding, it is then focused on the development and construction of a high-rise urban centr for the said retirees, in which the aged are the target market, catering to all their basic needs as well as showcasing the Philippines best features. The design of the high-rise also takes into consideration the physical disabilities that the users may possess or eventually acquire due to aging. It is also important in designing a high-rise rest and recreation center to know what activities the retirees need and prefer. The Philippines is said to have features that make it a good candidate for places to retire in. With this, the project is set to bring out these features through architecture. The project will serve example for other future projects that will be focused on the culture of the elderly and retired. The elderly and retirees will only cover citizens of foreign countries and former Filipino citizens or balik-bayans over the age of 50. And it is assumed that they will have come from at least, the middle working class. The study tackles the promotion of tourism in the Philippines, but is limited to architectural and design solutions only. The study is significant to architecture for the elderly and national tourism. Where through this project, an alternative tourism program may eventually be developed to generate funds for the country in which architecture is a major component. |
