| Abstract | The segregation of residential communities is a reflection of the socioeconomic segregation that still continues to take place in our society. The shortage of quality affordable housing for low and moderate income households in urban areas has resulted in isolation where households have limited choices in providing themselves with shelter in areas they could consider as an advantage in terms of accessibility to employment and income generating opportunities. This tends to raise employment opportunity costs of workers least able to bear these costs. There is an unequal distribution of the public costs and benefits of metropolitan living. The concept of mixed-income housing is then a viable option in reducing socioeconomic segregation and providing quality homes for the low and moderate income sector of the society. It aims to provide adequate housing amenities for the class B, C and D market in one high-rise facility. It is believed that by increasing the strength of Filipino values common among the different levels of affordability, the facility would be able to create a healthy and diversified community. It is hoped that through the creation of a mixed-income community, low and moderate income households would experience: reduction of isolation, a safer living environment, proximity to transportation and employment opportunities, linkage to households with social services, access to better schools, and connect families to a broader range of people and institutions. |
