Resource Title Supertitious beliefs and practices applied in home interior spaces of selected millennial homeowners

Abstract Using qualitative research design, this study made an attempt to determine whether selected members of the Millennial generation recognize and practice Filipino traditions and superstitious beliefs that are applied to residential interior spaces. Twenty (20) Millennial respondents had been purposively selected to participate in the study, disregarding those who are living with members belonging to the generations of Baby Boomers and Generation X. Instrumentation and data gathering techniques for the study included interview guides, online survey questionnaires and photo documentation. The study’s conceptual framework showed Indicators that may have a bearing on the phenomenon being studied namely, 1) the interior space utilization of the homes of selected Millennial homeowners; 2) influences of social, broadcast and print media; 3) family traditions and 4) the Millennial residents’ personal taste and preferences. The researcher analyzed the data gathered in terms of the following parameters: 1) the Millennial generation’s space utilization; 2) the factors behind their style preferences, and 3) whether superstitious beliefs were considered by them in the management
of their residential interior spaces. The Comfort Theory was likewise used as the study’s theoretical framework in the analyzation on how an individual is able to obtain a certain sense of comfort when his/her environmental aspects are fulfilled. This was beneficial in understanding the participants’ thought process, furniture selection, and space organization methods. From the data gathered, the researcher found that there was a discrepancy between the older half of the Millennials from the younger half wherein the older half showed a greater appreciation and knowledge for superstitions. However, both groups showed prioritization of practicality, functionality, and budget rather than the implementation of superstitions in their homes.
