Abstract This study evaluated the color preferences of millennial mall-goers for selected mall restroom interiors in Quezon City in terms of the functions of color. The color selections for each restroom were assessed based from its indicative, symbolic and aesthetic function. The cases involved three selected mall restrooms for and another three from men. The researcher utilized the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods of case study. Purposive sampling was used to determine the color preferences of millennials for mall restroom interiors. The criteria of choice for the sample were (a) male or female around 21 to 41 years of age, (b) resides in or near Metro Manila, (c) visit malls around Metro Manila
at least 3 to 5 times a month before pandemic. The data gathering procedures for this study included the following: (a) ocular observation and evaluation, (b) survey questionnaire and (c) focus group discussion. The millennial mall-goers inspected the color schemes of the selected restroom cases in terms of its indicative, symbolic and aesthetic function as well as cited their own color preferences for mall restroom interiors. Findings revealed that color selection among the three cases including and considering its three functions is aligned with quality and convenient experience for male and female users. The study also found out that neutral colors are greatly preferred by the millennial respondents due to its flexibility. It was also expressed that the three functions of color, efficient space illumination as well as the process of color selection for mall restrooms have a significant effect to generate positive impact to the well-being of the millennial mall-goer who are the users of the space. Determining the color preferences of millennials for restrooms would recommend a deeper understanding about the importance of appropriate color selection which would lead them
to create spaces that are comfortable to their target consumers.
