Abstract With the second largest number of islands in the world, the Philippines has a vital resource in its natural bays and harbors. This is especially the case in the context of a rapidly growing cruise tourism industry in Asia. Presently, relatively few international cruise ships include the Philippines in their itinerary of destinations.
The Port of Catagbacan in Loon, Bohol was selected as the first designated international cruise ship seaport, by the Philippine government. The research project was directed at designing it’s terminal and supporting facilities. The research focused on examining the existing seaport, and case studies of similarly situated seaports. By identifing some of the factors affecting the growth of cruise tourism in the Philippines, the project focused on developing concepts for designing seaport infrastructure, in a Philippine context
