Abstract | A public market is a municipality owned and operated establishment in which vendors sell fresh food from open stalls, coming in many shapes and settings, offer a broad range of products, and are owned and operated by various types of organizations. It gathers all kinds of people from various sectors of the local community and provides both inter and intra-community trade and social interaction, playing a key role in the day-to-day living pattern of Filipino community. The influx of both local and foreign results in a very disorganized and under-developed markets. In the rush to put up incoming-generating, tourist-attracting spaces, careful planning and correct growth are shunted to one side, abd the sprse almost non-existent landscape features make them dull, utilitarian public spaces. Termed “Hubog Kalakalan” this thesis is the application of pedestrianization concepts and open space development to “shape” or improve the quality of trade and interaction in the market, creating an atmosphere in which people will be encouraged to shop and at the same time experience and interact with nature. For the proposed design solution, the group, with the use of a design criteria formulated by the group, chose the Baguio City Public Market. The group proposes to implement a Landscape Architectural solution to the site, which improvement of training through social gathering and interaction through open spaces and green areas. With the concept of “breathing ground”, the group aims to project the image of an Igorot village, using appropriate paving, terraced levels and Igorot-style stalls. Using different levels helps achieve more interesting transitions and better slope protection. |
