Abstract | Economic progress, especially in developing countries like the Philippines, is usually dependent on trade. Money circulates among the traders and of course its buyers creating a cycle that affects the financial system of a nation. One of the places where exchanging of goods happens is the market or commonly known by Filipinos as "palengke". Different sorts of merchandise are usually sold in this place, either by retail or wholesale. There are several marketplaces in the country. One of the famous public markets we have is the Divisoria Market found in San Nicolas, Philippines. Throughout the years, Divisoria made an impact in the lives of traders especially the consumers because of its cheap goods and variety of merchandise it offers. Divisoria market is also considered a center of trade in Manila, provides income to the merchants, and increases the Gross Domestic Product of the country. However, though how progressive the area maybe, Divisoria is slowly deteriorating in terms of its physical outlook and architecture. Many of the buildings especially the Divisoria Mall, which is considered the anchor of trade in the place, are neglected through time. The provision of set of guidelines for the site will serve as procedure to rehabilitate the area and strengthen the character of Divisoria. Improvements of the streets and the Divisoria Mall will also be included in the study. Developments must be adaptive to the place and must not intimidate its users. Surveys will be conducted as well as site analysis in order for researchers to familiarize themselves with the existing site and investigate the present condition of the area. Photo documentation will also be included in the methodology in order to compare building facades, building height and density. |
