| Date Issued | May 2016 |
| Abstract | Marikina city, being the largest shoe manufacturer of the country, was named as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines. Efforts for the progress of the footwear industry have been apparent through the launch of the shared service facilities (SSF) by the local government of Marikina. This program includes shoe component testing facilities, machineries rental and shoe customization. The Riverbanks Development Center (RDC) had been the local footwear industry’s showcase facility as it is the home to the Guinness’ largest pair of shoes in the world. This gives the opportunity for the local footwear industry to introduce the shoe-making advancements to the public through incorporating these into the built environment –Riverbanks Development Center. The complex, along with the whole municipality of Marikina, has been however known as a disaster prone locale. Earthquake and frequent flooding are common threats in the area. With all these being said and considered, the Riverbanks Development Center needs to be further reformed and redeveloped in order to cope up with the drastic economic and environmental changes in the municipality. The Marikina Shoe Industry Incubator: A Riverbanks Center Redevelopment Project aims to make the local footwear industry globally competitive through an efficient research and development, as well as showcase it up to date facilities to further integrate and involve its people in winning back the country’s long lost pride – the Shoe Industry. |
