| Abstract | The organization of social services depends upon the nature of individual needs end priorities given by individuals to their needs such as food, shelter, clothing, education, etc. It follows therefore, that social workers need to have a deep and comprehensive knowledge of the existing needs of their clientele if they are to contribute to the well-being of families. This study hopes to contribute to existing theories on needs, as well as, to gain insights into the needs of the Filipino clientele. Knowing their needs will therefore, provide guidelines for social work practice and derive concepts and principles which could be used in planning for a more realistic family welfare program. Likewise, this study hopes to contribute to already existing educational material in the field, as well as, show the use of case records for research and teaching purposes. The focus of this study is the determination of families' needs and how these are related to seeking assistance. in determining the needs of recipient families, case records and other official documents of AFED were analyzed and interpreted. Social data sheets were devised to guide the writer in collecting and classifying data. The social data sheets contain two sections. The first section includes the social background characteristics of the client while the second section covers the needs as stated by clients. Identification and classification of clients' needs were based on Maslow's theory and definition of needs. The analysis of the thirty-six (36) case records of recipient families covered in this investigation revealed that thirty-three (33) families are of the nuclear, while only three (3) are of the extended type. Twenty-three (23) of these families are of rural and thirteen (13) of urban origin. Out of thirty-six (36) families, twenty-nine (29) are residing in the city of Manila while seven (7) are residing in the surrounding provinces.
