| Resource Title | Factors That Influence the Persistent and Non-Persistent Use of the Intra-Uterine Contraceptive Device and the Oral Pills Among Low Income Families |
| Date Issued | October 1970 |
| Abstract | This thesis is a follow-up study of Intra-uterine users (IUD) and Pill users from the St. Luke's Family Planning Clinic who adopted the methods between January-December 1967, inclusive; who belong to the low-income families and living in the suburban communities of Quezon City. The follow-up (administration of the interview schedule) was done in May 1970. There were 61 IUD respondents which represented 20% of the total 305 "universe". And 23 pill users representing 100% of the Pill "universe". The analysis of the pill users was later abandoned due to some inadequacies which may not provide for a reliable and conclusive results. So that only a depth analysis of the IUD users is presented. Non-persistent users in this study refer to those women of child-bearing age who used the method for a year or less. Persistent users, likewise, refer to women of child-bearing age, who used the method for more than a year or more currently using the method at the time of follow-up. This would also include women who may have expelled the IUD but had immediate reinsertion and continued to use it for more than a year or lit to the time of follow-up. The data of this study are subjected to 3 types of statistical treatments, namely: Chi-Square Analysis, Fisher's Exact Probability Test and Rank Sum Test. For other information which cannot be Subjected to analytical methods mentioned, the descriptive statistics (e.g. simple percentage or proportions) was used. In deciding whether or not the probability of dependence are significant the critical level is set at 5% (< .05) or better (p <.01). This study covers 3 areas: A. Some selected Demographic and Social Characteristics of Persistent and Non-Persistent IUD Users. B. Sources of Information that Influence Persistent and Non-Persistent Use of the IUD. C. Reasons for Using the IUD. There were 8 selected demographic and social characteristics of the IUD users which were tested to determine their influence upon persistence |
