| Abstract | This study explored the factors that have sustained the Lupang Pangako Mother and Child Savings Mobilization Scheme (LPMCSMS), from its founding in 1996 to the time of the research — a period of 16 years. It also looked into the benefits of the scheme to the family and the community; the contribution of the agency - Vincentian Missionaries Social Development Foundation, Inc. (VMSDFI), in the formation and sustainability of the savings scheme; and fourth, the lessons gained from the experience of LPMCSMS. The ecosystem framework in social work is adapted in the study. People in the community have many pressing needs requiring resources that may or may not be available in their social environment. Based on the people's common interests and needs, the social worker helps them to work together to meet these needs and solve their common problems by developing a self-help and mutual assistance scheme, such as a community-based savings program. The experience of LPMCSMS demonstrates how people's potentials can be harnessed to address the specific needs of the members, families and community. Triangulation of qualitative and quantitative methods and sources of data was used through a survey of 100 members (10% of the total LPMCSMS membership); nine Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with initiators, officers and board members; and a focused group discussion (FGD) with 11 collectors. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data for trends, frequencies, and percentages. The findings revealed different factors that contributed to the sustainability of LPMCSMS. These were: (1) satisfaction of the respondents' strong motivation to save in order to meet the emergency and educational needs of their families and to secure their money; (2) the management of the savings scheme through good services and programs; simple PSPs, and trustworthy leaders and collectors.
