| Abstract | This study is a part of a bigger study entitled. "FIELD INSTRUCTION PROGRAM IN SCHOOLS OF SOCIAL WORK IN THE VISAYAS”, covering all the ten schools of social work in the Visayan region. This particular study took the province of Leyte and the one school of social work in the area, the Divine Word University of Tacloban, Tacloban City. This study concerned with two aspects of field instruction as a basic component of social work education: its administration (persons responsible for the administration of field instruction; objectives of field instruction; criteria for selecting agency supervisors; criteria for selecting field placements; etc.) as well as its nature and content (types of agency/setting used; nature of field placements/ arrangements used; kinds of learning opportunities, etc.) This study had a total of thirty-three respondents: four social work faculty of the Social Work Department of the Divine Word University who were involved in the school's field instruction offering in the summer of 1978 and during the first semester of 1978-79 academic year; ten agency supervisors from the different welfare agencies of Tacloban City who were directly involved in the supervision of field instruction student in the summer of 1978; and nineteen field instruction students enrolled in field instruction last summer 1978 and during the first semester of 1978-79. Three sets of questionnaires corresponding to the three groups of respondents were used as the main data gathering instruments. Simple tables were used showing frequency and percentage distribution for analysis and interpretation of the data which were organized cores-ponding to the three groups of respondents. The major findings from this study are: 1. The Social Work Department of Divine Word University do not have enough staff to handle its field instruction program. 2. Seventy per cent (70%) of the agency supervisors who were involved in the supervision of students are non-social work degree |
