Resource Title The startup nation board game with mobile app: an innovative tool in teaching startup MSMEs the entrepreneurial wisdom and survival skills in the form of an interactive game.
Date Issued 11 January 2023
Abstract Board games are swiftly adopted by the general public, most specially the real gamers (which most of the time are students) whenever they find it fun, exciting, and easy to play. Players usually want the games that provide entertainment and skill development. Board games are usually played in a group which also encourages competitiveness and camaraderie among the players. Usually, bright minds play Chess, Go, or Checkers. But Chess is only played by two people and takes so much time per turn because the players have to anticipate and predict their opponent’s moves. As a result, games like Chess are not usually used in gatherings or parties. On the other hand, board games like Monopoly, Snake and Ladders, Uno, and Cluedo, offer better entertainment and engagement because they cater to multiple players. The StartUp Nation game allows multiple players to interact with each other, and act as if they are in a real-life situation of being a startup. Each player will have to do its operating, investing and financing activities, and remain alive in the end, in order to win the game. The Startup Nation project is a board game equipped with a mobile app version wherein players need to perform the different startup activities and compete with each other in order to win the game. Indeed, it is a learning experience made more fun and interactive as it comes in the form of a multiplayer game. The online version is made to cater to players from the other parts of the globe who have access to the internet. With English as the official language, it intends to showcase the startup world and the relevant activities in every stage of the startup lifecycle. The end goal in the mobile app version is the same as that of the board game, which is to be the sole startup survivor at the end of each game.
