Abstract Genetically Modified (GM) foods are foods that are products of genetic engineering made to create a desired trait or characteristic. In the Philippines, various GM foods have now been introduced into the market including Bt corn, Bt eggplant, and Golden Rice; however, despite their existence, they are still not known by many. This study aims to determine the awareness of Filipino consumers toward GM food by administering an online survey to 116 respondents aged 18-60 years old in the Greater Manila Area. Results showed the level of awareness (dependent variable) of Filipino consumers was high; however, the factors under the level of awareness namely consumption, labeling, media, and government policies (independent variable) showed a low value of agreement towards its awareness. On the other hand, the correlation analysis of the study found that consumption, media, and government policies were positively correlated with the level of awareness towards GM food, while labeling was found to be insignificant. This is due to the lack of mandatory labeling laws in the Philippines, resulting in consumers rarely encountering labeling of GM foods. Additionally, all independent variables were positively and significantly (p>0.05) correlated with each other. Further, ordinal logistic regression was used to analyze the relationships between the dependent and independent variables and found that the level of awareness towards GM foods is higher when consumers are highly aware of the factors influencing it, including consumption, labeling, media, and government policies. The odds ratio for having a high level of awareness increased with higher awareness in each independent variable, with consumption having the highest impact, followed by media, government policy, and labeling.
