Abstract | The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated existing trends and raised new opportunities given the widespread adoption in remote work and digital work. With evident demand since the digital and flexible shift of working conditions, coworking spaces are now increasingly becoming more prevalent in rural communities including Boracay Island. Despite the rising remote workers in the island, there are still no designated working areas available for the public within Boracay currently as of 2022. Building a commercial hub with co-working space aligns with the projected growth of the global coworking market, emphasizing the demand for flexible workspaces especially with the rising trend of remote workers in the island, more so to accommodate other types of local businesses in the area that need a permanent location. The absence of dedicated spaces for local services such as hair braids, henna tattoos, and water sports has limited opportunities for local vendors to generate income. By establishing designated stalls, tourists will have a reliable location to access these services, enhancing their overall experience. With this in mind, this study recognizes the need to adapt to the post-pandemic reality and proposes a solution through the development of a business commercial center. The integration of coworking spaces, training rooms, locker rooms, and designated stalls for local services addresses the transcending demands of tourists and provides opportunities for local businesses to thrive. The findings and recommendations of this research contribute to the sustainable development of Boracay as a renowned tourist destination. |
