Resource Title The future of cloud-driven post-harvest storage facility in Philippine agriculture: scenarios & strategies - a technology foresight
Date Issued 13 June 2024
Abstract The agricultural sector in the Philippines is integral to the nation's economy and food security. However, it faces significant post-harvest challenges, primarily due to inadequate storage facilities and inefficient handling practices. Cloud technology, known for its scalability, real-time data processing, and remote management capabilities, offers transformative solutions for post-harvest storage.

This study uses scenario-building techniques to explore the future of cloud-driven post-harvest storage facilities in the Philippine agriculture sector. Additionally, it utilizes PESTLE analysis to identify macro and micro environmental factors affecting the country's adoption and implementation of these facilities.

The project develops three primary scenarios to envision different futures based on varying levels of technological adoption and external influences. These scenarios include Market-Driven Innovation and Adoption (MDIA), Government-Led Transformation (GLT), and Status Quo (SQ). Each scenario provides a detailed exploration of the potential impacts, opportunities, and strategies for implementing cloud-driven post-harvest storage technologies.

Recommendations are offered to guide policymakers, agricultural entrepreneurs, and technologists in making informed decisions to significantly enhance the efficiency and sustainability of post-harvest storage facilities in the Philippines.

By utilizing scenario planning techniques, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of how cloud-driven technologies can revolutionize post-harvest storage, addressing current challenges and paving the way for a more sustainable and productive agricultural sector. The findings aim to support the strategic implementation of cloud solutions in post-harvest facilities, fostering innovation and resilience in Philippine agriculture.
