Date Issued 28 May 2024
Abstract The concept of Urban Gardening is continuously sprouting in Marikina City given its rich soil and being the main gateway of big provinces such as Rizal and Quezon Province. However, due to many factors such as its geographical condition, post-pandemic food insecurity, and economic recovery currently having in 2023 in general, Marikina is ramping up to recuperate alongside other big cities in the Philippines. Simple Nutrient Addition Program (SNAP) Hydroponics by the University of the Philippines Los Banos was introduced in 2021. However, it did not grow because it became exclusive only to the City Engineering Management Office. This study aims to diffuse the concept of urban gardening using SNAP Hydroponics within the city, reap the benefits of self-sustenance and maintain the program’s momentum making Marikina City a greener city.

The proponent defined the background of the study by determining different factors on how food shortage affected the economic recovery of the city especially during the pandemic and the annual flooding in Marikina City. He also included that being prone to disaster, there has been a fluctuation of food supplies on which the city has been relying on food harvested from other regions being the main problem that this paper would want to answer. The proponent researched the feasibility of urban agriculture in the city which focused on hydroponics, the technological gap in the product and process, and how technology management principles could address the gap including its potential benefits and significance of the study to the city.

The proponent created a conceptual framework that shall focus on how different variables such as the technological product and process shall have a relationship with technology management concepts. He introduced the concept of the SIPOC framework on which he wanted to explain where the information will be coming from, the requirements needed for the process to begin with, the main process on how technology
