Abstract The recent development of Virtual Reality (VR) tools marked a pivotal advancement not only in the gaming industry but also in healthcare, manufacturing, education and workforce industry. In order to investigate the future of the workforce with a work-from-home arrangement, namely in the IT-Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) business, this study focused on technology foresight through scenario building activities, with an emphasis on the year 2029. The topic of how VR's widespread acceptance would affect the trajectory of the workforce in the Philippines' IT-BPO business was deemed crucial as the technology continued to evolve.

The study centers on the core issue of the feasibility of a work-from-home set up of back-office employees of IT-BPO Industry in the Philippines during pandemic and beyond with the help of Virtual Reality Tools. The study included determining and assessing variables that could benefit or hinder the industry's progress, resulting in a comprehensive representation of the expected scenario by 2029.

The research had three main goals: (1) to identify the technological advancements that will impact remote work in the IT-BPO sector going forward; (2) to investigate different ways in which the IT-BPO industry maintains the work-from-home arrangement in the Philippines; and (3) to be able to identify the potential benefits and hindrances that the Philippines' IT-BPO sector may encounter as a result of employing VR technology for remote work in the future. By achieving these objectives, the study aimed to support a full work-from-home arrangement in the Philippines and provide decision-makers with practical tools to negotiate and navigate the evolving environment of VR and IT-BPO realm. Furthermore, the study intended to lay the foundation for future investigations on VR technologies in the Philippine setting.
