Abstract Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a prevalent gastrointestinal issue characterized by heartburn and regurgitation. It is multifactorial, influenced by dietary intake and anxiety. While drug therapy is the primary treatment, nutrition and lifestyle changes are often overlooked. Studies on GERD management in the Philippine context, especially among university dormers, are limited. At the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), dormers face factors like poor dietary practices due to limited access to nutritious foods, lack of food preparation equipment, and lower socioeconomic status. They also experience anxiety from living independently and away from family support. This study aimed to examine the relationships between macronutrient intake, anxiety levels, and GERD among UPD dormers (n = 42). Dietary intake was assessed using multiple 24-hour food recalls, GERD symptoms were measured using the GERD Questionnaire (GERDQ), and anxiety levels were evaluated using the General Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) Questionnaire. The results showed no statistically significant relationship between macronutrient intake and anxiety. However, there was a potential association between higher caloric intake and the presence of GERD symptoms, and a near-significant association between anxiety levels and GERD. Higher anxiety scores were found to increase the odds of having GERD by approximately 55%, although the probabilities are small. These findings are limited due to the low number of participants, indicating a need for further studies with larger sample sizes to better understand these associations.
