Resource Title | Exploring perceptions of selected Filipino interior designers on generative AI in design conceptualization |
Date Issued | 26 July 2024 |
Abstract | The integration of Generative AI in interior design conceptualization represents a pivotal shift in the industry's landscape, promising enhanced creativity and efficiency. This study examines Filipino interior designers' perceptions on Generative AI's role within the design process, employing the Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) framework to elucidate how technology shapes and is shaped by its users. Through an Exploratory Research Design utilizing mixed methods, including survey questionnaires and in-depth interviews, this research delves into the nuanced perspectives and experiences of thirty Filipino Interior Designers purposively chosen. Findings reveal a spectrum of attitudes towards Generative AI, ranging from neutrality to cautious optimism. While respondents acknowledge its potential to streamline workflows and expand design solutions, ethical concerns and cultural nuances emerge as significant considerations. Furthermore, demographic factors such as locality of practice influence perceptions, suggesting diverse perspectives shaped by cultural differences. Recommendations for future research include broadening participant diversity, conducting longitudinal studies, and fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations to navigate the ethical and practical implications of AI integration in Philippine interior design. This study contributes to advancing the discourse on AI integration in design practice, emphasizing the importance of a culturally sensitive and ethically responsible approach to technological innovation. |
