Abstract This study investigates food literacy among Home Economics (HE) teachers in secondary public schools in Quezon City. It determined the perceived level of food literacy of Home Economics teachers; discussed the factors that influence their level of food literacy; and identified the practices and challenges of the teacher in teaching food literacy as a Home Economics educator. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study evaluated the food literacy of 45 teachers through questionnaires and interviews, assessing both proficiency and challenges. Results show that HE teachers have a high overall food literacy level. Key dimensions, such as cooking skills, preservation, food acquisition, and planning, also indicated high proficiency. Interviews revealed that early home experiences, social media, and family preferences influence their food literacy. Challenges include financial constraints, time management, and balancing work and personal life. Teaching methods commonly involve hands-on activities, storytelling, and gamification, despite limited tools, cramped labs, financial issues, and insufficient class hours. To address these challenges, the study recommends increasing HE teacher salaries, hiring more teachers, and extending class hours to enhance food literacy education and foster essential life skills among students.
