| Resource Title | Meaning-generative architecture: a holistic approach to palliative care facility design |
| Date Issued | June 2024 |
| Abstract | This study seeks to understand how architecture can provide a caring environment for patients and families affected by one of life’s most difficult experiences—facing death through a terminal illness. Recognizing the difficult and complicated human experience of death and palliative care, it explores the synthesis and spatial translation of a more holistic, accessible, and life-affirming model of care. Through the principles of holistic care, community caring, and therapeutic landscapes, comprehensive care spaces in a palliative care facility were formulated that will not only address the clinical needs of patients, but also the psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of both patients and their families. By exploring how healthcare spaces can accommodate alternative forms of care, this research aims to provide valuable insights into the holistic architectural design of healthcare facilities. |
