| Date Issued | 8 April 2025 |
| Abstract | Studies on innovation management in the airline industry show that it is essential for airlines to achieve competitiveness and resilience. With the rapid changes in the aviation landscape, Philippine Airlines (PAL) has an opportunity to capitalize on innovation management, adapt swiftly, and dominate the market. This research tries to understand the pathways of PAL’s innovation management strategy to futureproof its business. Identifying which applications will effectively contribute to its growth, the more streamlined the journey to competitiveness in the next 5 to 10 years. This research tries to identify what trends in the industry will impact PAL’s innovation management. It will also discuss the possible scenarios out of these variables and how can the company align its innovation strategy to navigate these possible futures. After carefully reviewing related literature, a strategic forecasting was conducted to identify the strategic pathways of PAL’s innovation management. The scenarios built in this activity showed that to achieve cost efficiency, profitability, and competitiveness, PAL must focus its innovation management towards 3 strategic pathways, namely: sustainable aviation, AI-driven operational efficiency, and data-driven cost and revenue optimization. Scenarios are then discussed with select PAL leaders to gather insights and check the realities of the organization. The following are the common needs of the organization identified from the discussion: (1) A harmonized plan that uses innovation as a business strategy; (2) Staff proficiency and cross-functional alignment; and, (3) robust strategic alliances with the academe, regulators, and government agencies. |
