Date Issued 12 August 2026
Abstract This study determined the relationship between hospitality graduates’ internship experience and their work decisions from universities in Metro Manila in relation to their intention to stay in the hospitality industry. Internships play a crucial role in hospitality education as these give the students opportunities to gain hands-on experience and exposure to the workplace environment, culture, and interpersonal relationships. However, there is a lack of studies in the Philippine context to investigate the association of internship experience to the work decisions of the hospitality graduates. Hence, this study aimed to examine the relationship between Person-Organization Fit variables consisting of value congruence, work environment, and interpersonal fit, and Person-Job Fit variables that include skills-task compatibility, interest-job matching, and learning opportunities and the work decisions of hospitality graduates. Quantitative correlation research methodology was used employing Spearman rank-order correlation analysis. Data collection was done through adapted survey questionnaires that were administered to hospitality graduates from both public and private universities in Metro Manila. The findings revealed that Person-Organization Fit variables have a moderate positive relationship with the graduates' work decision. Likewise, skill-task alignment in Person-Job Fit has a moderate positive relationship with the dependent variable. On the other hand, interest-job fit and learning opportunities have weak positive correlations with the decision. These findings imply that organization-related internship experiences may have more consistent correlations with graduates' work decisions compared to job-related variables. This research contributes to the existing literature on hospitality internships by providing insights on the relationship between Person-Organization Fit and Person-Job Fit factors to graduates’ work decisions.
