| Resource Title | Beyond the hive: a holistic landscape physiology approach to enhancing the health of stingless bees (Tetragonula biroi) and sustainable beekeeping practices in Bacnotan, La Union |
| Date Issued | June 2024 |
| Abstract | The significance of bees transcends their role as pollinators, encompassing their contribution to honey production a substance of profound cultural, ecological, and economic importance. This study aims to elevate the honey industry of Bacnotan through a Landscape Physiology approach. By understanding interconnected ecological processes, this approach promotes resilience and productivity within the honey sector. Evaluating the potentials of Tetragonula biroi and the quality of honey produced will assess feasibility and ecological integrity, guiding the introduction of sustainable beekeeping practices in Bacnotan, La Union. The study seeks to contribute to the development Bacnotan as a premier honey produces and economic hub by prioritizing landscape composition and configuring bee forage areas. The synthesis of the feasibility assessment emphasized the favorable prospects for integrating stingless beekeeping into the Bacnotan Honey Industry. Stakeholder's enthusiasm, connected with the financial viability and market opportunities presented by stingless bee products, sets a promising trajectory for the industry's growth and sustainability. By integrating Landscape Physiology principles, Bacnotan can strengthen its honey industry sustainably through enhancing bee foraging with rich pollen and nectar sources, implementing policies to protect bee health from harmful chemicals and habitat loss, and raising community awareness about their vital ecological role are critical steps to enhance production diversification and sustainability. Through thoughtful planning and guidelines, Bacnotan can emerge as a beacon of excellence in the honey industry, demonstrating the harmonious coexistence of agricultural productivity, ecological health, and economic prosperity. This comprehensive approach not only safeguards the future of beekeeping but also emphasize the importance of preserving biodiversity and nurturing a symbiotic relationship between humans and nature, ensuring a thri |
