| Resource Title | From Waste to Resources: A Textile Waste Revitalization and Sustainable Fashion Resource Center in Taytay, Rizal |
| Date Issued | May 2026 |
| Abstract | Recent years have seen a significant increase in fast fashion consumption in the Philippines. With social media becoming increasingly influential in defining consumer trends, most local producers in major garment hubs, such as Taytay, resort to mass-producing trendy apparel to meet consumer demand. Consequently, substantial volumes of textile waste are generated in the municipality daily due to its extensive network of garment-centered enterprises. The study explores how architecture can redefine fashion sustainability as a collective practice through resource recovery systems and participation-centered spaces that support sustainability within the fashion industry. A mixed-methods approach, employing field observation, survey, and semistructured interviews, was applied to gain insights into existing practices, user perceptions, and challenges relevant to managing textile waste. Findings revealed fragmented frameworks for handling textile waste, limited knowledge of sustainable fashion strategies, and the absence of a specialized facility supporting activities centered on the reuse and recycling of textile waste. The proposed facility design presents architecture as a medium in fostering community-focused sustainable fashion education and textile revitalization systems through accessible, adaptive, interactive, and collaborative spaces. |
