| Date Issued | May 2026 |
| Abstract | This study proposes the MediPark Complex, a hybrid medical–lifestyle development that repositions healthcare architecture from a treatment-centered model toward prevention,self-management, and everyday wellness. Addressing the rising burden of lifestyle-related chronic diseases, the project aims to integrate medical care, lifestyle intervention, and social engagement within a single environment that supports sustained behavior change. The design adopts a Mall–Park typology as its primary concept, leveraging the spatial logic of commercial and recreational environments to normalize health-related activities. This is operationalized through a behavioral architecture framework (COM-B), translated into spatial strategies of continuous circulation, visual attractors, and programmatic exposure. These are reinforced by salutogenic, experience-based, and biophilic design principles, ensuring environments that are comprehensible, restorative, and conducive to long-term engagement. The methodology combines qualitative interviews with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, supplementary survey, and naturalistic observation, synthesized into behavioral and spatial requirements. The resulting proposal organizes spaces into interconnected clusters—clinical, rehabilitation, nutrition, and social support—linked through a looped circulation system that encourages repeated use and habit formation. The MediPark Complex demonstrates how architecture can function as an active system for behavior change, embedding health into daily routines and reducing the stigma of clinical environments. It contributes to healthcare design in the Philippines by presenting a preventive, experience-based, and family-centered model for chronic disease management. |
