Resource Title Examining Preservation Priorities for the Audiovisual Collection of the Media Services Section of the University of the Philippines Diliman Main Library
Date Issued June 2016
Abstract The main purpose of academic libraries is to provide the research needs of the students, faculty and staff and support the institution’s curriculum. To achieve that, the library must have all the resources that their users might need in through different media formats. Aside from circulating the audiovisual materials, the libraries must deliberately preserve their collection.

The media librarian and the staff of the Media Services Section were interviewed for this study. The data gathered were transcribed and analyzed. The study used a modified version of the survey questionnaire made by Indiana University Bloomington. The research showed that even though the Media Services Section holds a number of materials, there were only a small number of materials that were identified as rare and valuable. It was also noted that the Section does not have an intellectual control over their collection. Despite of their improvisation efforts, they were unable to preserve their collection properly to ensure the longevity of the materials, therefore leaving the materials to disintegrate and unable. Therefore, it was concluded that the entire audiovisual collection of the Media Services Section should not be prioritized for preservation
